Polygraphy Meaning
Here is the real polygraphy meaning: from the original word Greek Poly which
means "many" and Graphy which means to
"write", if combined and the direct meaning is "Many
Writings". This is the most accurate meaning of Polygraphy where
the word or the idea of Polygraph came from.
Polygraph
Polygraph is same meaning with polygraphy. This device was called Polygraph in
the reasons that all major parts of this device is automatically writing during
the course of examining of the subject by technician. This scientific examination
is called Polygraphy.
Subject –
is a person who is undergoing examination conducted by Examiner or
Technician to attest his or her truthfulness in the case. This is the term used
in polygraphy's test.
Technician -
refers to the person who conducting "Polygraph examination" to help
the investigators solve the crime. This is the correct term for technician in
terms in this science's examination.
Polygraph Machine
Major Parts of Polygraph Machine:
Pneumograph
in Polygraph– the pneumograph was from the word Pneumo which
means lungs. Graph which means to write ㅡ lungs' write. Record the breathing of the subject and the
result of the test was recorded on the paper which pulled of kymograph.
Galvanograph in Polygraph - From word galvanic -
attach in the little finger to record the electricity of the body of the
subject, known as galvanic skin response.
Kymograph in Polygraph-
A motor that pulls the paper that records all findings regarding
the subject's body. Without this type of parts; the polygraph machine is
useless.
Cardiograph in Polygraph- The
purpose of this is to record the movement of heart. From word Cardio; Latin
word which means heart. All graph is implies to the words "to
write" ㅡ write.
Polygraph Test
Polygraph test - a test made by technician to the
subject to attest his or her truthfulness in the case. A test by use of
Polygraph machine is called Polygraph test. Polygraph
Examination is a synonym of polygraph test.
Uses of Polygraph Machine
Here are the uses of Polygraph Machine:
Pneumograph – is recording the
breathing of the subject. Sometimes the subject is holding his breath to avoid
tracing and the examiner called it breathing suppression.
Galvanograph – is design to record
the electricity of the subject’s body.
Kymograph is a machine that pulls
all the papers which records the data interpreted by all major parts of Polygraph
Machine.
Cardiograph – this part is the responsible
for tracing the heart.
The invention of the this thing was reason and here are the purpose of polygraph machine. The first intention is to use for solving a crimes
especially to the suspects who might the responsible of the crime in the
particular area.
The first invention of this machine
was accepted in court as evidence but due to some issues this machine now is
not accepted as evidence in court to prove the defendant’s
responsibility. Polygraph machine now is only a lead to
investigators to identify the truthfulness of the subject or suspects.
Information about Polygraph Machine
Not all information regarding this machine was correct, here below was the wrong information about polygraph machine.
Galvanograph - according to others
it is recording the "skin resistance." How the resistance will
record? There is really resistance occurred? the answer is no; there is no such
instance occurred; the main purpose of galvanograph is to record the electricity
of our body.
The Polygraph machine was become evidence after the invention and the accuracy is very strong and very helpful in pinpointing the actual malefactor of the crime. However; when the time came that this machine was rejected its accuracy and there is a great liar who surpass the examination of Polygraph Machine. This machine now were use by Police Agencies as a lead not as evidence.
These questions might used by examiner and below are the questioning techniques during examination of the subject.
- Are you the responsible of the crime?
- Why did you do that
- Why did you kill the victim?
Indirect Questions
- How's your family?
- Do you have boyfriend? (if woman) Do you have girl friend? (if man)
- What is your name?
In the direct questions are those
questions that are closed related to the case.
For Example:
Those are the basics questions
technique to catch the subject's response in the direct questions.
In the indirect question are those
questions that are not related to the case and the purpose of these techniques
is to pacify the subject's body system to get the best accurate result. As
first timer's subject, it is normal in us that we have a little nervousness. Those
are some reasons why the indirect questions invented.
For Example:

that may pacify the subject's body system to minimize the nervousness to get
the best result in direct questions. Those are the purpose of Polygraph
machine in Polygraphy.
This machine was now a lead and not used as evidence; the question is; is polygraph machine is helpful or not?
Since the Polygraph
machine was invented had a reason ー for detecting lies? In the deeper understanding
about polygraphy ー this machine is not design for detecting lies but misleading
information from the subject owing to that the subject was just misleading the
technician but not for "lie" detection purpose.
The importance of this
machine to the Law Enforcement Agency is to lead them into
the fact of the case to pinpoint the real creator of the crime that has been
committed.
