 Crime scene meaning defined as a place where the "crime" happened, that is the best meaning of the crime scene.

If the crimes scene was contaminated; the contaminated portion must eliminate in the search plan in the reason that the evidence that present in that portion is not the real evidence to point the true creator of the crime.  

You may get third party evidence which is not the creator of the crime and that was the reason why that the scene of the crime must cordon as mentioned above.
